The Cheviot and Hedgehope
A fine walk out over the highest hills in Northumberland
From Langleeford in the Harthope Valley, we walk up Scald Hill, then steadily up to the Cheviot. We then descend Cairn Hill, before more ascent, this time over Comb Fell and on to Hedgehope Hill. Our final descent of the day, takes us via Long Crags and Housey Crags, back to the valley floor.
Though potentially boggy underfoot at times, this route has much to recommend it, particularly the extensive views. If time and conditions allow, we may visit Braydon Crag, where a B17 Flying Fortress crashed in 1944.
